The 12 Signs
Each sign colors any planet passing through it. Signs holding a planet right now are outlined.
Planet positions come from Astronomy Engine, accurate to about one arcminute, using the tropical zodiac. The north node is the mean node. Town search uses Open-Meteo. Nothing you enter is stored except your last town and house setting, which stay in your own browser.
What Is Today's Astrology Chart?
Today's astrology chart is a map of where the Sun, Moon and planets are right now, drawn for your location. The wheel shows the 12 zodiac signs around the edge, the 12 houses inside them, and a symbol for each planet at its current degree. The chart opens on the present moment, and you can change the date, time and town to see the sky for any day.
Current Planetary Positions
The table under the chart lists the current planetary positions: each planet's sign, degree, house, and whether it is moving direct or retrograde. Press Now at any time to bring it up to the minute. The Retrograde box in the reading panel names every planet that is retrograde today, with links to our guides on Mercury retrograde and Venus retrograde.
The planets sit in the same signs for everyone on Earth at a given moment. Your town changes the houses and the rising sign, because those depend on which part of the zodiac is coming over your eastern horizon.
How to Read the Chart
Read each planet in three layers:
- The planet tells you which part of life is in play. Venus covers love and money, Mars covers drive and courage, and Mercury covers thinking and talking. The planets in astrology each have their own themes.
- The sign tells you the style. Venus in Scorpio turns love private and intense, while Venus in Gemini makes it chatty and curious. The sign cards above describe all 12.
- The house tells you where in life it shows up. The houses run from the self in the 1st house to rest and solitude in the 12th.
The colored lines across the middle of the wheel are aspects, the angles between planets. Blue lines (trines and sextiles) show planets working together easily. Red lines (squares and oppositions) show planets creating friction that pushes for action. Hover over or tap any planet, sign, house number or line on the wheel for a short note and two keywords. The Day at a glance box sums up the whole day in plain words.
Watch the Planets Move
Press Play to watch the sky move an hour, a day or a week at a time, or drag the slider to move up to 30 days either way. The Moon crosses a whole sign in about two and a half days, so it is the fastest mover on the wheel, while Pluto barely shifts in a year. The Jump to buttons take you straight to the season's key moments, like the retrograde stations, the full moons and the winter solstice.
When a planet in today's sky makes an aspect to a planet in someone's birth chart, astrologers call it a transit. Many people check the current chart for the big ones, like retrogrades, full moons and eclipses. For the Moon alone, the moon phase calendar shows each night's phase, and the magical days of the week pair each day with its planet.
Placidus or Whole Sign Houses?
Placidus is the house system most Western astrologers use today, so the chart starts there. It divides the sky by time, so houses come in different sizes. Whole Sign houses give each house one full sign, starting with the rising sign, and many traditional astrologers prefer them. Switch between the two in the Houses menu; the planets stay in the same signs either way. Above 66° latitude, Placidus houses can't be calculated, so the chart uses Whole Sign automatically.
Today's Astrology Chart FAQ
Is this astrology chart free?
Yes. Today's astrology chart is free to use as often as you like, with no sign-up and no email address.
What are the current planetary positions?
The table under the chart lists the current planetary positions for right now: each planet's sign, degree, house and motion. Press Now at any time to update it.
Which planets are retrograde right now?
The Retrograde box in the reading panel lists every planet that is retrograde at the moment shown, and retrograde planets appear in red on the wheel with a ℞ beside their degree.
Why does the chart change when I change my town?
The planets stay in the same signs, but the rising sign and the houses depend on where you are. Each town sees a different part of the zodiac rising over its eastern horizon at the same moment.
What is a transit in astrology?
A transit is a planet in today's sky making an aspect to a planet in a birth chart. Astrologers watch transits to time when certain themes come up in a person's life.
What are the colored lines in the middle of the chart?
The lines are aspects, the angles between planets. Blue lines are trines and sextiles, which flow easily, and red lines are squares and oppositions, which create friction. Darker lines are closer to exact.
Which zodiac does this chart use?
This chart uses the tropical zodiac, the system most Western astrologers use, where 0° Aries starts at the spring equinox. Planet positions are calculated with Astronomy Engine, accurate to about one arcminute.
Is my information saved?
No. The tool only remembers your last town and house system on this device so the chart opens where you left it. Town searches go to a free place-search service to find the location and time zone.
