That’s exactly why this guide exists.

Table of Contents

This is one of those body oil recipes you can come back to again and again. Whether you’re making your very first DIY body oil or you’ve been blending oils for years, this base keeps things simple, nourishing, and flexible.

Why a Good Base Makes All the Difference In Body Oil Recipes

Not only do body oils help you smell amazing, but they also keep your skin from feeling tight, dry, or irritated, especially if you’re showering often, stressed out, or living in a dry climate.

A good base oil is what helps keep moisture pressed against your skin, helping the oil sink in faster, softening rough spots, and giving essential oils something safe and supportive to work with.

This base:

  • Soaks in without leaving you greasy.
  • Feels gentle enough for sensitive or easily irritated skin.
  • Uses oils that are easy to find and budget-friendly.
  • Creates a calm, neutral foundation for intention and ritual work.

🌿 Universal & Nourishing DIY Body Oil Recipe Base

Ingredients:

This recipe makes about 2 cups of oil, enough to keep one bottle for yourself and still have room to experiment or share.

✨ Why These Oils Work So Well Together

You don’t need dozens of oils to make a good nourishing body oil recipe. You just need the right balance of skin-friendly carrier oils.

Jojoba Oil
This oil is a skin favorite for a reason. It feels like your skin’s natural oils, so it moisturizes deeply without clogging pores or feeling heavy. This is our favorite oil, technically a wax, in our body oil recipe.

Grapeseed Oil
Light, fast-absorbing, and perfect if you hate that slippery feeling. It keeps the blend feeling breathable and smooth.

Sweet Almond Oil
Soft, comforting, and a little protective. This is the oil that gives the blend that cozy, cared-for feeling, great for both skin and ritual use.

Note: If you cannot use sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, olive oil, or liquid coconut oil.

Together, these oils create a body oil that feels grounded but not heavy, nourishing but not overwhelming.

🌼 Vitamin E: A Small Addition That Makes a Big Difference

Vitamin E is one of the easiest ways to level up a DIY oil without making it complicated or expensive.

It helps your skin stay soft longer, keeps oils fresher, and adds an extra layer of care.

Why People Love Adding Vitamin E

  • Helps lock moisture into dry or sensitive skin.
  • Supports skin that’s been through stress, sun, or seasonal changes.
  • Extends the shelf life of your oil.
  • A little goes a long way (which matters on a budget).

How Much Vitamin E to Use

  • 1 teaspoon per 2 cups of oil for a lighter, shelf-stable oil.
  • Up to 1 tablespoon per 2 cups of body oil for a richer, deeply nourishing blend.

It blends easily and won’t overpower your essential oils or intentions.

🌸 Essential Oil Guidelines

You can absolutely use this body oil unscented, especially if you’re sensitive or just want something simple.

If you do add essential oils:

  • Use 18 drops for a soft, gentle scent.
  • Use up to 25 drops if you want something a little stronger (but still skin-safe).

For spiritual blends like chakra oils, essential oils should be chosen with intention, not just because they smell good, but because they support how you want to feel.

Always choose skin-safe, high-quality essential oils for body oil recipes.

  • After a shower, while your skin is still slightly damp, apply a few drops to your hands and apply all over your body.*
  • Before ritual or meditation
  • During self-massage or moments of stress
  • As a daily reminder to slow down and care for yourself
  • As the base for custom spiritual blends

You only need a few drops! this oil is meant to last.

*While this can be used on the face, I recommend that you avoid using it on face if you are prone to sensitive skin, as every face is different and reacts differently to carrier oils. I, personally, stick to my regular facial routine and save this blend for my body or quick anointing work.
