Wheel of the Year 2019

Wondering when the dates of the pagan holidays for 2019 are? Do you feel the pull of the season’s change or feel compelled to celebrate? It may be time to turn the wheel of the year and celebrate a new phase of this year’s energy!

What is the wheel of the year?

The Wheel of the Year is a modern Pagan calendar that marks the dates of traditional harvest festivals, solstices, equinoxes, greater sabbats, lesser sabbats, and more! Most dates that are found on this non-tangible wheel are based in deep Pagan traditions, dating back to many ancient cultures, civilizations, and astrological signs.

Why do some dates change on the Wheel of the Year?

Dates like the Summer Solstice, Yule or Winter Solstice, Autumnal Equinox, and Spring Equinox are selected based on astrological and astronomical positioning. Dates like Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane, and Lughnassadh are more fixed but may fluctuate based on astrological or cultural timing.

Are the Pagan/Wiccan holidays different in the southern hemisphere?

Yes! Because the southern and northern hemispheres experience seasons during opposite times of the year, the holidays are also celebrated during the opposite time of the year. Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere will be the Winter Solstice in the southern!
